Samsung to Offer Twitter Widget on its Internet@TV Platform

Consumer electronics manufacturer, Samsung, says it is set to launch a Twitter widget on Internet@TV, an Internet-based TV widget service which it announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January and which is based on the Yahoo! Widget Engine (note: the service, which is available on Samsung's LED 6000, 7000 and 8000-series HDTV sets, as well as on the company's 6- and 7-series LCD screens, offers a range of JavaScript- and XML-based mini-applications, including widgets for Flickr, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Weather, Yahoo! Finance, USA Today, YouTube, eBay and Showtime Networks). The new Twitter widget, which will be offered free-of-charge, is expected to allow viewers to, among other things, use their remotes to send and view tweets about programs as they watch them.

Popular for midrange and high-end HDTVs of all types, especially those with large screens, this resolution matches the 1080i maximum resolution for broadcast HDTV and 1080p Blu-ray Disc formats. A key characteristic of all fixed-pixel displays is that incoming signals not at the set's native resolution must be scaled to match that resolution. The quality of this mathematical upconversion or downconversion can significantly affect the picture, especially for ordinary standard-definition TV signals. Inferior scaling may soften the picture, exaggerate noise, or cause some edges to appear slightly jagged.

LCD Display Technology

LCD televisions, like this one, are relatively thin, lightweight panels with a light source at the rear and a lattice of tiny cells filled with liquid crystals in the middle. They perform better than plasmas in brightly lit rooms and don't suffer image burn-in. But because the liquid crystal is never completely opaque, reproducing black or near-black color is harder for LCDs. Picture quality can deteriorate when viewing from far off to the side; and because liquid crystals respond relatively slowly to changes in applied voltage, fast-moving objects on the screen may appear to blur slightly. But LCD technology continues to improve, and these problems are less of an issue today (look for models that tout a 120-Hz refresh rate and a wide viewing angle). LCDs tend to be cheaper than comparable-size plasmas and are available in smaller screen sizes (37 inches and below).

Samsung LN52B750 Review

I know a lot of you are looking at a lot of hdtvs. Let me tell I looked at all the t.vs in best buy to see how they look. I saw the ln46b650 as it stood out from the rest with clarity. So i decided to take a gamble and pre order this one. I even owned a pn50a760 plasma and sent it back because it had poor clearity. This t.v has an extra setting for the upscaling which makes it ajust to the size making it a little clearer for normal dvds then the regular upscaling.

PROs for this t.v: Clearest picture i've seen so far for LCD. No artifacts on 240hz settings. The colors are bright and stunning. For you video game addicts. I have a ps3 and a xbox360 hooked up to it and let me tell you the game looks crisp and has no lag whats so ever.

Cons:The internet capabilities and media stuff arent exciting. Only thing its good for is maybe knowing the weather and uploading pictures on the tv when having family events. When people speak while playing video games they seem a little quiet other then that they sound pretty decent. The blacks are probally the best you can get for lcd but its still not as black as plasmas can get. Only other thing is its viewing angles, its best to sit at a centerish seat.

The cons are very very minor overall this t.v I will recommend to anyone looking for something great in all area's for the price. Regular Dvds look nice a sharp and blue rays look even better. Even my girlfriend that knows nothing about t.vs says WOW thats a lot better then the other one we sent back. You could also see the jealousy in my friends eyes.
I hope my technical comments help you decide if this is the t.v for you.

Samsung Electronics America unveiled two series of plasma HDTVs, series 8 and series 6, at CES 2009.

Measuring about an inch in depth, series 8 plasma HDTVs is the world's slimmest 1080p resolution plasma sets to feature built-in ATSC tuners, Samsung claimed.

Despite their slim design, Samsung's plasma HDTVs features high contrast ratio along with Ultra Filter Bright technology, which reduces the luminance in black levels by 50%. And Samsung's exclusive Wide Color Enhancer 3 maps HD or SD signals to the panel's native color space, which covers 110% of the HD specification.

The series 8 and 6 both meet the Energy Star 3.0 efficiency standard.

Samsung have announced an exciting range of LCD TV's for 2009 with the 6000, 7000 and 8000 series, featuring LED backlighting and Internet@TV technology.

The flagship 8000 series features a 200Hz refresh rate while the 7000 and 6000 are all 100Hz. All of the new screens include USB connectivity, DLNA certification, super-slim design and Samsung's latest incarnation of their Ultra Clear Panel technology.

In August 2008, Intel and Yahoo confirmed their intention to co-develop the Yahoo Widget Channel (Internet@TV). Widget technology enables TVs to connect to the Internet through "widgets," bits of software that provided elements of web based content.

Allowing access to the internet via Ethernet cable or a Wi-Fi USB dongle Internet@TV will enable consumers to carry out tasks such as e-mailing friends, trading shares or checking the weather while watching programmes.

A number of manufacturers believe that LED SmartLighting technology has the potential to elevate LCD to achieve plasma rivaling levels of black level ability. On the latest Samsung LCD TV's its implementation replaces the conventional bar-style fluorescent backlight with hundreds of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). This helps produce a claimed 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio along with a more natural color representation.

Sure to turn heads, the new panels feature a piano black bezel that fades into chrome. The neck of the stand is transparent 'crystal,' giving the illusion that the screen is 'floating.'

The new LCD TV's from Samsung are due to arrive in the UK this Spring. No prices have been announced.

Samsung Bets on New Tech to Drive Local Growth

Korean consumer electronics major Samsung is betting on high-definition (HD) products and new technologies like Bluray and Samsung LED TV to
drive growth in the Indian market. The company is planning to launch a wide portfolio of such products in 2009 in its audio-visual categories like TV, camera and home theatre.

Samsung expects such HD and new tech products to account for 50% of its revenues in the audiovisual segment in 2009 compared with some 30% in 2008. In categories like LCD, it expects the HD TVs will constitute around 45% of total sales volume up from 20% in 2008 and HD digital still cameras will account for over 10% of the total sales.

"The premium products have been growing at a phenomenal pace in India. For instance, the LCD TV market grew by over 150% last year. Given the strong response witnessed by these categories, we expect the market will sustain the demand in 2009 driven by products like LED TV. In some categories like Blu-ray, we are actually creating the market in India to take the first mover advantage," Samsung India deputy managing director R Zutshi told ET.

Samsung plans to create a new stand-alone TV category with its LED TV portfolio. LED TVs have superior picture quality and energy efficiency compared to other flat panel TVs like LCD and plasma; they consume 40% less power than standard LCD TVs, contain no mercury and are made of eco-friendly materials.

The company plans to introduce a line-up of LED TVs with 40-55-inch screens by May. It also aims to introduce a Blu-ray player at Rs 29,000 and Blu-ray home theatre at Rs 70,000 in the second half of 2009. It will roll out a full HD camcorder and a range of HD digital still cameras. "The products will be sold through premium multi-brand stores, retail chains as well as through our network of brand shops," he said.

We plan to aggressively expand our brand shops for retailing these products as well as set up LCD/LED display walls at key multibrand outlets.

Samsung Electronics on Wednesday presented an all new range of ultra-slim, energy-efficient high-definition televisions at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Codenamed “Samsung Luxia”, the new range is said to be extremely energy-efficient, as it sports LED as the chief light source, instead of the conventional Cold Cathode Fluoroscent Lamps (CCFLs).

The company unveiled three distinct models of Luxia range, namely 6000, 7000, and 8000 series, with all these models having Samsung’s exclusive ‘Touch of Colour’ image display, which offers high-contrast ratios, ultra clear image details, and a wide range of colours.

The LNXXB8000 series of the range integrates advanced ‘Auto Motion Plus’ 240Hz frame processing feature that can deliver speedier 240 Hz refresh-rate, which is said to be four times faster than that of LCD TVs available in the market currently.

This all-around excellent TV is easy to use and a delight to the eyes.

It's hard to find fault with Samsung's LN46A550. This LCD model lacks some of the specs and design of its younger sibling, the Samsung LN46A650, but otherwise it holds its own next to that model.

In our Test Center tests, the LN46A550 excelled with Blu-ray discs. In a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, images looked as though they were coming from a mint 35mm print. Though I thought that some of the images in our tests lost a bit of detail, my fellow judges felt otherwise. This model finished in a statistical tie with the Samsung LN46A650 in overall performance, and it remains atop the heap of models we've tested in this size category.
